Unbeaten 76ers host unbeaten Pistons tonight with Embiid out and LeBron back

Philadelphia ruled Joel Embiid out for the second night of a back-to-back, and LeBron James is off the injury report. Detroit plays without Jalen Duren, so both teams are short at center for a 7:30 p.m. tip.

  • The Philadelphia 76ers (3-0) host the Detroit Pistons (2-0) at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on Sunday at Xfinity Mobile Arena, and the top two teams in the Eastern Conference will both be missing their starting centers. The Sixers ruled out Joel Embiid with right foot plantar fasciitis management, according to ESPN and the team's injury report, a night after his 28-point, 11-rebound, 10-assist triple-double against Milwaukee.

  • LeBron James is back. He sat Saturday's 127-116 win over the Bucks with lower back and sciatica management and was not listed on Sunday's report. Philadelphia also ruled out Dominick Barlow (back), Jabari Walker (left knee) and Tacko Fall (quad). Walker hurt his knee in the third quarter Saturday. ESPN reports that leaves Adem Bona as the only true center available, with Dean Wade and James likely to see time at the position.

Detroit is without Jalen Duren, who the team said will miss at least two weeks with a right hamstring strain. Ausar Thompson is listed as questionable with an ankle injury. Paul Reed leads the Pistons with 8.5 rebounds a game through two games.

  • The records are close to even on paper. Philadelphia won at New York 106-100 in the opener, came back from 29 down to beat Cleveland 114-106 and beat Milwaukee on Saturday. Detroit beat Boston 121-113 at home and won 128-111 at Miami on Saturday, so both teams are on the second night of a back-to-back.

Tyrese Maxey is averaging 28.7 points for the Sixers. Cade Cunningham is averaging 8.0 assists for Detroit, and Duncan Robinson leads the Pistons at 19.0 points a game.

The betting line moved after the injury news. The Associated Press preview listed Philadelphia as a 2.5-point favorite, and ESPN's DraftKings line now has Detroit by 2.5 with a total of 227.5. ESPN lists the game on NBA League Pass.

  • One team leaves Sunday unbeaten. The Pistons go to New York on Wednesday, and the Sixers visit Indiana.
