Miami is No. 1 in the first Chuck Hot 10 for college football, even after nearly losing 38-35 at North Carolina on Saturday. The Hurricanes are one of three unbeaten teams at the top, with Utah and UCLA, and they play No. 4 Notre Dame on Saturday night in the biggest game left on the regular-season schedule.
This list is Chuck's, not a poll. It weighs record, who each team has beaten and how it is playing right now, which is why it differs from the AP top 10. It is also the first edition, so movement arrows start next Monday.
The Chuck Hot 10
- Miami (8-0). Darian Mensah threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns at North Carolina, two of them to Malachi Toney. The defense gave up 341 passing yards to Billy Edwards Jr., something to fix before South Bend.
- Utah (8-0). A 49-25 win at Cincinnati, with Devon Dampier throwing three touchdowns and Hunter Andrews catching two for 112 yards. BYU visits Saturday.
- UCLA (8-0). The Bruins shut out Nevada 27-0 and have allowed 17 points in their last three games. They also own a 17-15 win at Oregon.
- Georgia (7-1). Beat Florida 27-8 and already has a 20-17 win at Alabama. The lone loss is 27-24 to Auburn. Georgia plays at Ole Miss on Saturday.
- Notre Dame (7-1). CJ Carr threw two touchdowns and Nolan James Jr. ran for 107 yards and two more in a 35-13 win over Navy. Linebacker Drayk Bowen, the team's leading tackler, is out for Miami.
- Wake Forest (7-1). The hottest team in the country. Wake has won its last four by a combined 187-31, finishing with a 51-7 win over Virginia in which Carlos Hernandez caught eight passes for 136 yards.
- Indiana (8-1). Needed overtime to beat Minnesota 23-16, with Charlie Becker catching eight passes for 149 yards. The loss is 19-15 to Ohio State.
- BYU (7-1). Beat Arizona State 27-20 and has a 28-24 win over Notre Dame. The loss came 39-31 at UCF. The trip to Utah on Saturday decides a lot in the Big 12.
- Kentucky (7-1). Four straight wins, two of them by a single point, against South Carolina and LSU. The Wildcats come off a bye and play at Tennessee on Saturday.
- Ole Miss (6-2). Trinidad Chambliss threw two touchdowns in a 45-15 win over Auburn. Georgia comes to Oxford on Saturday.
Just missed: Texas (6-2), Ohio State (6-2) after its 30-18 loss at USC, and Texas Tech (7-1).
