Jerome's big night
Jerome scored 40 points on 14 of 22 shooting, with 5 of 6 from 3-point range and 7 of 8 at the line. Cameron Boozer added 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Wells scored 16 and Isaiah Stewart had 14. Memphis shot 52% and made 18 threes, and it still lost because it turned the ball over 16 times to the Pelicans' eight.
New Orleans won inside
Williamson had 25 points and 11 rebounds on 9 of 15 shooting. Matkovic matched him with 25, going 9 of 13 overall and 5 of 8 from deep. The Pelicans' team account flagged a career-high 22 for him late in the third quarter, and he kept adding to it. Derik Queen scored 20 off the bench, and Trey Murphy III and Bey had 18 apiece.
The Pelicans outscored Memphis 62-54 in the paint and won the third quarter 41-33. There were 16 lead changes.
What it means
One loss doesn't change much for Memphis, but it does reopen the race for the top spot in next Monday's Hot 10. For New Orleans, this is the best win of a slow start, and it came with Williamson and Queen both doing damage around the rim.
Watch whether Fears, who went 5 of 17 from the floor, keeps closing games for New Orleans, and whether Jerome's scoring holds up for Memphis.
