Clemson freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds threw two touchdown passes and sealed a 36-24 win at Florida State on Saturday night with a 79-yard touchdown run on third-and-12 with 3:17 left.
The run came right after Florida State had cut a 29-10 deficit to 29-24 with two fourth-quarter touchdowns. Clemson Sports called it a record-setting run, and FOX Carolina reported it was the longest rushing touchdown by a quarterback in school history.
Reynolds finished 18 of 32 for 189 yards with no interceptions and ran 14 times for 85 yards, according to the ESPN box score. He had not thrown a touchdown pass in four games before connecting with Christian Bentancur from 18 yards and Olsen Patt-Henry from 4 yards in the first half. "If you can't see 2 getting better then you just ain't looking," coach Dabo Swinney said, per the Associated Press.

Kicker Nolan Hauser did the rest of the scoring. He made all five of his field goals, from 35, 35, 50, 46 and 49 yards, and he is now 23 of 24 on the season. His 50-yarder at the end of the first half sent Clemson to the locker room up 23-10.
The difference was the ball. Clemson didn't turn it over, and Florida State gave it away four times. Elliot Washington II intercepted Ashton Daniels twice and Jerome Carter III added another. Daniels threw for 350 yards and two touchdowns, including a 46-yarder to Micahi Danzy, and ran for another score. "I'm happy to report we won the turnover margin for the first time this year," Swinney said.
Clemson (5-3, 3-2 ACC) has now beaten Florida State three straight times. The Seminoles (3-5, 1-4) have lost three in a row and are tied for last in the ACC, and Mike Norvell's seat keeps getting hotter. Before kickoff a plane towed a banner over Doak Campbell Stadium calling for his firing, and Swinney criticized it unprompted after the game. "That was embarrassing what I saw above the stadium," he said, according to ESPN.
There was one scary moment. Clemson left guard Elyjah Thurmon was strapped to a backboard in the second quarter and taken off on a cart, giving a thumbs-up. Swinney said he would likely stay overnight at a Tallahassee hospital.
What's next: Clemson has won three straight and has a freshman quarterback who looks more comfortable every week. Florida State's next result will shape how loud the noise around Norvell gets in November.
