  • Utah Jazz forward Jaren Jackson Jr. tore the MCL in his right knee in Monday's loss to Memphis, the team announced Tuesday. He will be reevaluated in six weeks, and sources told ESPN he is looking at six to eight weeks before he returns.

Jackson will not need surgery, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

  • He was hurt Monday night when Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome fell into him and his knee buckled. Lauri Markkanen also left that game in the first half, and the Jazz said Tuesday he is day-to-day with a sprained right wrist. Utah is hopeful Markkanen will not miss much time, but it is his shooting wrist.

  • The injury is another setback for Utah's plan around Jackson. The Jazz sent three first-round picks to Memphis for the two-time All-Star and 2023 Defensive Player of the Year before last season's trade deadline. He played three games for Utah before having surgery to remove a noncancerous growth in his left knee.

The frontcourt was already thin. Starting center Jusuf Nurkic has not played this season because of a partial plantar plate tear in his right foot, and he is due to be reevaluated in early November.
