Sacramento Kings rookie Darius Acuff Jr. finished with 22 points and 12 assists Wednesday night in a 116-103 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers at Golden 1 Center. The Kings' official final post and ESPN's box score both have him at 8 of 24 from the field, 3 of 11 from three, three rebounds and two steals in 42 minutes as a starter.
Luka Doncic scored 40 for the Lakers, who improved to 7-2. Zach LaVine scored 21 for Sacramento, and Domantas Sabonis had 16 points and 17 rebounds, per the same Kings post and the ESPN recap.
Acuff already had a 38-point night earlier this season on a night Sacramento still lost big. Wednesday was a different shape: fewer makes, more creation. He set up teammates for most of the night against a Lakers defense that packed the paint when Doncic left the ball. NBC Sports called out the usage, saying Acuff is running a heavy share of Sacramento's offense as a rookie and that the counting stats keep coming even when the jumper is cold.

The shot volume is the tradeoff. Twenty-four attempts and four turnovers leave plenty to clean up. He was at 14 points with five assists by halftime, according to the Kings' halftime post, then kept hunting assists after the break while the Lakers pulled away behind Doncic. The midgame NBA clip of Acuff finishing at the rim came during that first-half stretch.
Sacramento hosts San Antonio on Friday night, per the ESPN schedule. For fantasy and dynasty owners, Wednesday's takeaway is the assist line as much as the scoring. If Acuff keeps starting and creating at this rate, the counting stats stay useful even on 8-of-24 nights. Watch whether the assist rate holds against the Spurs and whether the shot selection tightens after the Doncic film session.
