  • Cameron Boozer picked a good night for his first NBA triple-double. The Memphis rookie had 18 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists as the Grizzlies beat the Portland Trail Blazers 124-103 on Thursday night at Moda Center, and Memphis is 5-0.

At 19 years and 103 days old, Boozer is the second-youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double, according to the league. He made 6 of 10 shots, went 4 of 5 from three and finished plus-20. The win gives Memphis its first 5-0 start since the 2014-15 season.

  • This was a game for most of the night. The teams were tied 58-58 at halftime, and Memphis led by only two midway through the third quarter before a 10-0 run made it 87-75 with 2:09 left in the period, the Associated Press reported. Zach Edey hit a three with 9:47 to play for a 96-85 lead. Ja Morant answered out of the Portland timeout, but Ty Jerome scored on back-to-back trips to push it to 101-89. Memphis won the fourth quarter 33-20.

  • The Grizzlies spread it around. Seven players besides Boozer scored in double figures. Isaiah Stewart led the bench with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, Cedric Coward had 17 and Edey added 13 on 6 of 8. Memphis made 18 of 42 threes, all 12 of its free throws and had 32 assists on 47 baskets.

Jerome, the Western Conference Player of the Week, had 10 points on 3-of-12 shooting. He has cooled after his hot start, and on this night it didn't matter. Memphis also won the glass 54-45 and turned it over 11 times to Portland's 16, the kind of clean game that lets a young team pull away late on the road.

  • Portland, which came in unbeaten, shot 12 of 49 from three. Deni Avdija led the Blazers with 24 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, and Donovan Clingan blocked five shots. Damian Lillard, one game removed from a game-sealing three against the Lakers, went 3 of 13 and 1 of 9 from deep.

  • The bigger worry for Portland is Morant. Playing his old team for the first time, he scored 14 points in 23 minutes before leaving in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury. He did not return.

  • Boozer is the reason to keep watching Memphis. A rookie big who can run the offense for stretches gives the Grizzlies a different look when Jerome's shot isn't falling, and Thursday showed what that looks like over 28 minutes.

Memphis visits winless Sacramento on Saturday. Portland plays at Utah the same day, and the first thing to watch there is whether Morant is available.
