  • Buffalo was down 31-16 with 12 minutes left at Yager Stadium on Tuesday night. It won 34-31 in overtime. Oliver Hautanen made a 27-yard field goal on the Bulls' overtime possession, and Kellan McLaughlin's 45-yard try for Miami (OH) hit the upright, per Miami's postgame recap and the AP story on ESPN.

  • Jason Wright threw for 358 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more. Chance Morrow caught 12 passes for 199 yards and both of Wright's touchdown throws. Buffalo is 6-3 and 4-1 in the MAC, which makes the Bulls bowl eligible and keeps them a game behind 5-0 Ohio. Miami fell to 5-4 and 3-2, and its three-game winning streak is over.

    We had this one backwards

Our tale of the tape before kickoff said Buffalo would need Messiah Burch to run and that asking Wright to win through the air was a lot. Wright came in with 987 passing yards for the season and a 49.7% completion rate, per Buffalo's game notes. On Tuesday he threw for more than a third of that total in one night, going 22 of 46. Burch, who had five straight 100-yard games, was held to 56 yards on 14 carries.

  • How Miami built the lead

Miami had a big night on special teams and on defense. Jermaine Agee blocked a punt early in the third quarter and Scoop Smith fell on it in the end zone for a 24-10 lead. Toney Coleman Jr. and CJ Young intercepted Wright on back-to-back third-quarter drives. Smith's 6-yard run with 12:01 left made it 31-16.

D'Shawntae Jones ran 17 times for 112 yards, per the ESPN box score, and Miami said he was its first 100-yard rusher since November 2025. Caleb Heavner went 12 of 23 for 154 yards, with a 21-yard touchdown to Braylon Isom, who caught seven passes for 89 yards.

    Buffalo's comeback

Wright hit Morrow from 4 yards out with 8:56 left to finish an 11-play, 75-yard drive, then found Morrow again for the two-point conversion to make it 31-24. The Bulls tied it on Wright's 2-yard run with 1:35 left, capping a 12-play, 80-yard drive. Buffalo outgained Miami 459 yards to 350, and Miami was flagged 13 times for 104 yards.

  • It was Buffalo's first win at Yager Stadium since Oct. 29, 2015, according to Miami's pregame notes, and only the ninth overtime game in Miami football history. The game ran three hours and 46 minutes, and coach Chuck Martin's press conference started after midnight.

"We played three-and-a-half really good quarters... the best we've played all year," Martin said.
