  • Bucky Irving ran for 170 yards and a touchdown, Kenny Gainwell added 140, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Atlanta Falcons 16-0 on Sunday on a soaked field in Tampa. The Bucs ran for 324 yards, a franchise record, and never completed a pass.

  • Baker Mayfield went 0 for 3 in his second game back from a fractured thumb. Per the AP recap on ESPN, Tampa Bay is the first team with zero completions since the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 29, 1974, which had been the only such game in the Super Bowl era. The old team rushing mark was 283 yards in a 2015 win at Philadelphia.

Irving carried 27 times and Gainwell 25. Chase McLaughlin kicked field goals of 46, 34 and 42 yards and is now 19 for 19 this season. Irving's 4-yard run with 3:47 left in the third quarter made it 16-0, and the Bucs kept handing it off from there.

  • The Tampa Bay defense supplied most of the field position. Alex Anzalone intercepted Penix twice, Zyon McCollum and Jacob Parrish once each, and Parrish's pick came on a fourth-down throw at the Tampa Bay 17. The Bucs wasted some of it. After Anzalone's first interception and a Drake London unsportsmanlike penalty put the ball at the Atlanta 18, Irving took a lateral from Mayfield and fumbled out of the end zone for a touchback when Jessie Bates III knocked it loose.

Penix finished 8 of 24 for 125 yards with four interceptions. Jahan Dotson had a 76-yard catch among his two for 95 yards, and London caught one pass for 8 yards on six targets. Bijan Robinson ran for 76 yards on 19 carries. Nick Folk missed a 53-yard field goal on Atlanta's opening drive. Tampa Bay held the ball for 35:16.

The game also put Mayfield across from Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski, his former coach in Cleveland. The Bucs lost outside linebacker Yaya Diaby to a knee injury in the first quarter, and Emeka Egbuka was inactive with a foot injury.

  • Tampa Bay (3-5) has won three of four after an 0-4 start and sits a half-game behind Carolina in the NFC South. Atlanta falls to 3-5.

What's next: The Bucs play at Chicago next Sunday night on NBC. The Falcons face Cincinnati in Madrid.
