  • The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night at Tropicana Field, scoring eight runs in the fifth inning, all of them with two outs, to take a 3-0 series lead. Milwaukee is one win from the first World Series title in franchise history.

The inning almost ended before it got going. According to ESPN, Christian Yelich hustled into second base on a play that was first called the third out, and a replay review ruled him safe. From there the Brewers strung together seven straight hits without a home run.

  • Brice Turang's infield single to shortstop scored Jackson Chourio and Yelich. Garrett Mitchell singled in William Contreras. Cooper Pratt doubled in two more, Sal Frelick doubled in Pratt, David Hamilton singled in Frelick, and Chourio's double to right brought home Hamilton to make it 10-0.

  • Chourio finished 4 for 5 with two runs, an RBI and a steal. ESPN said it was his third straight multihit game to open this World Series, making the 22-year-old the youngest of the 26 players to do that. Contreras and Turang each had three hits, and Turang drove in two. Milwaukee had 16 hits and no errors.

On the mound, Robert Gasser gave Tampa Bay nothing. The left-hander threw six scoreless innings on 75 pitches, allowing one hit and one walk with three strikeouts. The Brewers said he was the first lefty to face the minimum through six innings of a World Series game since Sandy Koufax in 1965. Antonio Senzatela added two perfect innings.

  • Brandon Woodruff, pitching for the first time since July 4, worked the ninth. The Rays avoided the shutout there when Yandy Diaz doubled to center and scored Cedric Mullins.

  • Freddy Peralta took the loss for Tampa Bay, allowing five runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. Cam Booser came in during the fifth and gave up four runs on four hits without getting an out. The Rays had three hits all night.

Milwaukee has outscored Tampa Bay 18-6 in the series with one home run, Frelick's solo shot in Game 2, according to ESPN. Game 4 is Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. ESPN reported the Rays plan to use Griffin Jax, either as a starter or as a bulk reliever after an opener, and the Brewers had not named a Game 4 starter. Their bullpen comes in rested after Monday's blowout.
