  • Florida will start Aaron Philo at quarterback against No. 3 Georgia on Saturday in Atlanta, sources told ESPN on Friday, putting him back in the job after a shoulder injury cost him the Gators' win at Texas.

  • First-year coach Jon Sumrall picked Philo over Tramell Jones Jr. after both took first-team snaps this week, and both were listed as questionable on Florida's first availability report. Sumrall had said all week, "I think we can win with either guy."

Jones made a strong case. In his first career start on Oct. 17, he threw for 155 yards and two touchdowns on 22-of-35 passing as No. 17 Florida beat Texas 27-24. Sumrall said this week Jones has been dealing with "a couple bumps and bruises" since.

  • Philo's numbers explain the call. He has completed 70.5% of his passes for 1,341 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions in six games. He followed offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner from Georgia Tech, and this game has a home angle. Philo grew up about 15 miles from the Georgia campus and broke Trevor Lawrence's Georgia high school career passing record at Prince Avenue Christian in Bogart.

Kirby Smart was not picking favorites. "One beat Ole Miss and one beat Texas on the road," the Georgia coach said of the two quarterbacks. "They're both completely capable, good players."

Florida has lost five straight to Georgia and needs help around Philo. Receiver Vernell Brown III is probable and expected back after missing three games with a sprained right knee, but receiver Bailey Stockton and linebacker Jaden Robinson are doubtful. Georgia has ruled out running back Chauncey Bowens again with a foot injury, leaving Nate Frazier, Dwight Phillips Jr. and Bo Walker to carry the backfield. Safety KJ Bolden is likely a game-time decision with a leg injury after missing the loss to Auburn.
