Tulane came back from 10 points down in the fourth quarter Friday night and beat Charlotte 38-31 in overtime at Jerry Richardson Stadium. Dagan Bruno scored the winner on a 1-yard run.
Charlotte controlled most of the night. The 49ers scored 24 points in the second quarter, with Khamani Alexander running 44 yards for a touchdown and Conner Harrell throwing scores to Jaden Barnes and Derrick Eley. Eley added a 1-yard touchdown run with 10:52 left to make it 31-21.
Tulane chipped back. Cooper Helmke hit a 27-yard field goal with 6:29 to go, the defense got a fourth-down stop, and Trace Johnson found Cam Roberts for an 11-yard touchdown with 10 seconds left to tie it at 31. Tulane's official account first credited a different receiver, then corrected it to Roberts.

In overtime, Bruno ran it in from the 1 for the final points. Johnson finished 28 of 36 for 284 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Johnnie Daniels ran 13 times for 99 yards and two scores, and TJ Smith returned a second-quarter kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, according to the ESPN box score.
Charlotte ran the ball better than Tulane did. Henry Rutledge ran 22 times for 121 yards, and Harrell went 23 of 36 for 239 yards and two touchdowns without a turnover. The 49ers out-rushed Tulane 216 to 183, while Tulane finished with 467 total yards to Charlotte's 455.
The early game in Orlando was never close after halftime. DJ Lagway completed 16 of 25 passes for 319 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions as Baylor beat UCF 41-9 at the Acrisure Bounce House.
Lagway threw two touchdowns to T. Livingston, then hit Gavin Freeman for a 77-yard score in the third quarter that made it 34-6. Freeman finished with five catches for 114 yards. Matthew Klopfenstein caught a 5-yard touchdown early in the fourth for the final points.
UCF never reached the end zone. W. Stone kicked three field goals, including a 57-yarder at the end of the first half. The Knights went 2 of 14 on third down and 0 of 3 on fourth, and Baylor's official account said its defense recorded seven sacks. Josh Derry had a 67-yard catch, one of the few big plays UCF found.
What's next: Tulane can feel good about its fight and less good about letting Charlotte score 24 in one quarter. Baylor's passing game produced 319 yards on 25 throws, and that is the version of Lagway the Bears need the rest of the way. The late game between Kent State and Sacramento State was still early in the first quarter at 11 p.m. ET.
