Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren will be out at least two weeks with a right hamstring strain, the team announced Sunday. The Pistons said he will be re-evaluated in two weeks, and ESPN and the Detroit Free Press both reported the timeline.
Duren got hurt in the first half of Friday's 128-111 win at Miami. He played 10 minutes, finishing with four points, six rebounds and three assists before leaving. Two nights earlier he had 22 points and nine rebounds in the season-opening win over Boston.
The timing is awkward for Detroit. Duren's offseason was a long contract standoff that kept him out of media day and the first few practices of training camp before he signed a five-year, $200 million deal, according to ESPN. Last season he averaged a career-high 19.5 points, made his first All-Star team and was named third-team All-NBA as the Pistons took the East's top seed. His playoffs went the other way: 10.2 points a game over 14 games before a second-round exit.

Who fills the minutes
Paul Reed took most of the work Friday after Duren left, scoring 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting with 11 rebounds in 26 minutes. Tolu Smith played two minutes. Reed is the obvious candidate to absorb Duren's minutes while he is out.
Ausar Thompson was listed day-to-day on ESPN's injury report after Friday's game.
Next up
The Pistons (2-0) play at the 76ers (3-0) at 7:30 p.m. ET Sunday, a matchup of two of the East's unbeaten teams. A two-week re-evaluation would put Duren's next checkpoint around Nov. 8. A grade, or any word on whether he needs more time, would come with that update. Fantasy managers who roster Duren should look at Reed as the short-term pickup.
