  • Jacksonville turned three Patriots turnovers into control of Sunday's game, then pulled away for a 35-6 win at EverBank Stadium. Trevor Lawrence threw three touchdown passes, while New England's offense managed only two Andy Borregales field goals. The ESPN final box score puts the Patriots at 1-2 and the Jaguars at 2-1.

Drake Maye finished 14 of 25 for 199 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. He also lost a fumble in the first half. The Jaguars' game report traces the first Jacksonville touchdown to that fumble: Lawrence found Josh Cameron from 12 yards out on the ensuing possession. A Marcus Jones interception briefly gave New England a short field, but the Patriots took only a field goal from it. Lawrence then connected with Jakobi Meyers for a 10-yard score, making it 14-3 at halftime.

The game broke open in the third quarter. Parker Washington made a 17-yard touchdown catch with 1:08 left in the period. On New England's next snap, Jarrian Jones intercepted Maye and returned the ball to set up Chris Rodriguez Jr.'s 5-yard touchdown run. Those two scores came 18 seconds apart and pushed Jacksonville's lead to 28-3. Bhayshul Tuten added a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth. The official Jaguars clip shows Washington's catch.

  • The yardage totals alone do not explain the score: ESPN credits New England with 317 total yards to Jacksonville's 315. Possession quality was the difference. The Patriots converted 4 of 12 third downs, lost three turnovers and got no touchdown from their trips into scoring range. Lawrence completed 19 of 29 passes for 182 yards and three scores; the Jaguars also rushed for 137 yards.

Maye was pulled for Tommy DeVito in the fourth quarter after the game was out of reach. Associated Press reporting carried by CBS Boston confirms the benching and the turnover count. New England visits Buffalo next Sunday after the Bills improved to 3-0. The immediate question is how the Patriots protect the ball and finish drives after a game in which the offense moved at times but produced no touchdown.
