  • Logan Webb received the Giants' 2026 Willie Mac Award before Friday's game in San Francisco, an honor that measures a different part of a season than the pitching line. Giants players, coaches, trainers, clubhouse staff and fans vote for the player they consider most inspirational. Webb had finished second in the voting in each of the previous three years, according to MLB's report.

The Giants announced the choice through their official account. It is Webb's first Willie Mac Award, and MLB says he is the first Giants starting pitcher to win it since Madison Bumgarner in 2014. Buster Posey, who won the award himself, presented it alongside members of Willie McCovey's family.

  • The timing sharpens the story. Webb's 2026 pitching season ended early when a blister on his right middle finger put him on the injured list. He finished with a 4.31 ERA in 27 starts and 160 2/3 innings, ending a run of three straight 200-inning seasons. Those figures and the injury were reported when the Giants shut him down. This award does not erase a frustrating stretch on the mound; it reflects how the club and its fans judged his presence across the year.

  • The Giants' award page says the prize has been given since 1980 in Willie McCovey's honor and is meant to recognize competitive spirit, ability and leadership. Webb joins recent winners Matt Chapman in 2024 and Willy Adames in 2025. With his season already over, the recognition gives San Francisco a more durable measure of what he contributed to a club that has dealt with roster turnover and injuries.

The Giants also marked the historical distinction in a second official post: no starting pitcher had won their Willie Mac Award since 2014.
