Braxton Berrios plans season-ending foot surgery, NFL reports
Surgery plan follows the foot and ankle injury he suffered against Arizona.

Braxton Berrios will undergo season-ending surgery for a foot injury, according to NFL.com's Tuesday evening news roundup. The league's report says the Giants receiver and return specialist announced the plan on social media. It describes a procedure still to come.
That moves the reported outlook for Berrios beyond the initial injury assessment following Sunday's win over Arizona. NFL.com also reports that New York placed him on injured reserve Monday.
The Giants' earlier official account documented how the injury happened and why the team was still evaluating it. John Harbaugh said Monday that Berrios had twisted his ankle and foot, apparently on a punt return. The coach said the team expected to know more after further assessment later Monday or Tuesday.

Berrios was one of three Giants who left the Cardinals game and did not return. Safety Jason Pinnock exited with a concussion and defensive lineman Chauncey Golston with a neck injury. The team won 36-24 to improve to 3-1 and remain unbeaten at MetLife Stadium.
Berrios' absence affects a player whose established contribution is on special teams. The Giants' official biography lists 100 career punt returns for 1,130 yards and 91 kickoff returns for 2,265 yards entering his New York stint. He earned first-team All-Pro honors as a returner with the Jets in 2021, when his 30.4-yard kickoff-return average led the NFL.
New York signed Berrios in June after he spent the previous season with Houston. He had also played for the Jets and Dolphins after being drafted by New England. His work has included receiving and rushing contributions, but the return game has been a central part of his career.
The Giants now prepare for a divisional road game against Washington. Tuesday's reported surgery plan changes the outlook for Berrios from an injury still under assessment to an absence expected to last the remainder of the season.
