Patriots lose 13–10 as three late interceptions fuel Seattle comeback

New England led by 10 points in the third quarter and still left Seattle with a loss. The Seahawks scored the final 13 points Wednesday, beating the Patriots 13–10 as Drake Maye threw three fourth-quarter interceptions.

The last came with 26 seconds remaining. New England had reached Seattle’s 16-yard line before Josh Jobe intercepted a pass intended for Mack Hollins in the end zone. The touchback ended the Patriots’ final possession, and Drew Lock knelt out the clock.

Lock had replaced Sam Darnold, who left with a hip injury and was ruled out for the rest of the game by Seattle. The replacement quarterback finished 16 of 22 for 187 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. His biggest throw was a 45-yard touchdown to Jaxon Smith-Njigba that tied the score at 10 with 11:28 left.

That touchdown followed Nehemiah Pritchett’s interception of a Maye pass intended for Romeo Doubs. Seattle then received another short field when Julian Love intercepted Maye at New England’s 47. Jason Myers finished that possession with a 26-yard field goal at the 5:50 mark, providing the winning margin.

The Patriots had built their lead with a two-yard touchdown pass from Maye to Eli Raridon in the second quarter and Andy Borregales’ 50-yard field goal early in the third. Myers’ 30-yard field goal later in the third began Seattle’s comeback. New England never scored again after moving ahead 10–0.

Maye completed 23 of 33 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown. He also ran seven times for 47 yards. Rhamondre Stevenson carried 18 times for 51 yards and added five catches for 44. Hollins led New England’s receivers with 51 yards on four catches, while Raridon’s only reception produced the team’s only touchdown.

Smith-Njigba caught eight passes for 122 yards and Seattle’s lone touchdown. Jadarian Price led the Seahawks on the ground with 52 yards on 10 carries. Seattle finished with 285 total yards to New England’s 277, despite running 19 fewer offensive plays.

New England’s defense held Seattle to two conversions on 11 third downs. The Patriots also possessed the ball for 34:17 and collected 19 first downs to Seattle’s 13. Those advantages kept the game within reach, but the turnover difference was decisive: New England gave the ball away three times, and Seattle did not turn it over.

The season begins with New England 0–1 and Seattle 1–0. The Patriots’ immediate offensive problem is clear from the finish: three possessions in the fourth quarter ended with interceptions, including two that set up Seattle scores and the last that erased a chance to answer.
