  • No. 15 Utah beat Iowa State 31-17 in Ames on Saturday behind three touchdowns from Wayshawn Parker. The running back gained 174 yards on 18 carries, scored twice on the ground and caught a 13-yard touchdown pass. Utah led 24-3 at halftime and protected that advantage after the Cyclones made the second half more competitive. The final ESPN box score records 411 Utah yards and 316 for Iowa State.

Parker supplied the opening jolt only 16 seconds into the game, breaking a 54-yard touchdown run at 14:44 of the first quarter. Devon Dampier later connected with Braden Pegan for a 24-yard touchdown, giving Utah a 14-0 lead after one period. Dillon Curtis kicked a 27-yard field goal in the second, and Parker's one-yard scoring run made it 24-3 before halftime. Iowa State's first points came on Kyle Konrardy's 47-yard field goal.

Utah's halftime margin was built through its ground game and its care with the ball. The Utes rushed for 205 yards and recorded no turnovers. Iowa State had 23 first downs to Utah's 21, but Jaylen Raynor threw two interceptions and the Cyclones managed only three conversions in 14 third-down attempts. Those possession details matter more than the first-down edge because they kept Iowa State from turning sustained movement into enough points.

  • The Cyclones scored once in each of the final two quarters. Raynor ran eight yards for a third-quarter touchdown, cutting the margin to 24-10. He then found Daniel Overby for a 22-yard touchdown early in the fourth, reducing the deficit to seven. Utah's scoring had paused through the third quarter, but Dampier and Parker combined for a 13-yard touchdown pass with 2:58 remaining to make it 31-17. Raynor was intercepted on Iowa State's next possession, and the comeback ended.

Dampier completed 18 of 27 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns. Parker added five catches for 65 yards, giving him 239 yards from scrimmage. Raynor finished 21 of 40 for 205 yards, one passing touchdown and the two interceptions. Utah's 14-point win therefore reflects both a first-half surge and a late answer after Iowa State narrowed the gap.

The Utes' official schedule identifies this as their Big 12 opener and first road game of the conference slate. Iowa State's game center confirms the Ames setting. Utah now takes a conference win into its scheduled bye, while Iowa State must address the turnovers and third-down production that limited its response. Neither team's later standing can be assigned from this game alone.
