  • Wake Forest beat Louisville 30-27 at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium, handing the Cardinals their second loss. Connor Calvert's 32-yard field goal with 6:20 left broke a 27-27 tie and held as the winning score.

  • Wake Forest opened the scoring with Calvert's 39-yard field goal, but Louisville answered when Lincoln Kienholz ran for a 5-yard touchdown late in the first quarter. Ty Clark III then scored twice from six yards in the second quarter, and Gio Lopez hit Carlos Hernandez for a 77-yard touchdown. Those plays put Wake Forest ahead 24-14 with 1:19 left in the half.

Louisville did not let the early deficit become a runaway. Kienholz ran for a second touchdown, then found J. Skinner for a 61-yard score with 57 seconds left in the second quarter. Chris Hilbert's 41-yard field goal tied the game at 24 in the third, and the kickers traded two more field goals before Calvert's final three-pointer. Wake Forest never scored a fourth-quarter touchdown, but Calvert's kick supplied the only points of the final period.

  • The finish stayed tense after Calvert's kick. Louisville missed a 42-yard field-goal attempt with 2:29 left, then reached another chance at the final seconds. With 15 seconds remaining, N. Keller's 57-yard attempt was blocked by Wake Forest's G. Kirschke and recovered by D. Cook at the Louisville 46, ending the comeback threat. Those two late kicks preserved Wake Forest's three-point win and turned a narrow lead into a confirmed road result.

Kienholz completed 27 of 36 passes for 324 yards and one touchdown, and Louisville finished with 399 total yards. Wake Forest produced 402 yards, including 225 passing and 177 rushing. The Cardinals converted seven of 14 third downs and held the ball for 33:34, while Wake Forest went 2-for-10 on third down and still won because its three touchdown drives and three field goals survived Louisville's pressure. Each team lost one turnover.

The yardage and possession numbers explain why Louisville remained in the game. The Cardinals had 24 first downs and converted half of their third-down attempts, while Wake Forest had 20 first downs. But Louisville's final two field-goal possessions ended without points. Wake Forest's defense held the lead long enough for Calvert's third field goal to stand as the difference.

  • Wake Forest moved to 3-1 and Louisville fell to 2-2. The game was the Cardinals' first home loss of the season and ended their attempt to start the ACC stretch with a third straight win. The official game center lists Louisville's L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium as the site.
