  • Milwaukee reached 99 wins Wednesday night by scoring four times in the first three innings against Aaron Nola and holding Philadelphia to one run. Brice Turang and Christian Yelich hit solo homers, William Contreras added a two-run single, and the Brewers beat the Phillies 4-1 at Citizens Bank Park.

  • Turang's 20th homer opened the scoring in the first inning. Yelich followed with his 12th in the second. Philadelphia briefly cut the deficit to 2-1 when J.T. Realmuto's groundout scored Alec Bohm, but Contreras singled home Garrett Mitchell and Turang in the third. MLB's official video of the game shows those early swings and the margin they created. • Logan Henderson allowed one run in five innings to improve to 11-3. Nola struck out eight over six innings, but the four runs he allowed were enough to decide the game. Milwaukee's bullpen protected the lead, and Trevor Megill worked a scoreless ninth for his 30th save.

  • Philadelphia had chances to make the game closer. Field Level Media reported that the Phillies went 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10. They had the bases loaded with no outs in the second but scored only on Realmuto's groundout. Bryson Stott doubled twice, but the offense could not produce another run after that inning.

  • The Brewers moved to 99-59 and need one win in their final four games to reach 100 for the first time. The Phillies fell to 87-71, leaving their wild-card berth unresolved. The preview of Nola against Henderson came with postseason questions; the final result showed Henderson and Milwaukee's relief group denying Philadelphia the timely hit it needed.
