Toledo beat San Diego State 41-16 at the Glass Bowl, pulling away with 34 unanswered points across the second and third quarters. San Diego State opened with a 25-yard field goal by C. DiLeva, but Toledo answered with four offensive touchdowns, two field goals and a 67-yard interception return.
John Alan Richter started Toledo's run with a 19-yard touchdown pass to A. Dabbs. R. Griffith added a 38-yard field goal, then Richter found Bryson Hammer for touchdowns of 78 and 38 yards. Griffith's 49-yard field goal and Isaac Zay's 67-yard interception return made it 34-3 before San Diego State answered. The Aztecs scored on J. Denegal's 11-yard pass to R. Wolfer, but the two-point try failed. Toledo added Connor Walendzak's one-yard touchdown run, and San Diego State's late 14-yard pass from D. Trudeau to J. Hawkins set the final margin.
Richter completed 16 of 22 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns. Hammer caught six passes for 133 yards and two scores. Toledo gained 494 yards, with 284 passing and 210 rushing, converted 8 of 15 third downs and committed no turnovers. The Rockets held the ball for 33:25 and averaged 12.9 yards per pass attempt.

San Diego State finished with 296 yards, including 248 passing and only 48 rushing. Denegal completed 19 of 31 passes for 206 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The interception became Zay's defensive touchdown, scoring seven points without Toledo's offense having to sustain a drive. San Diego State converted 3 of 14 third downs and committed two turnovers.
The game turned on Toledo's ability to create explosive plays. Hammer's 78-yard catch immediately extended the Rockets' lead, and his 38-yard touchdown kept the Aztecs from settling into a one-score game. Zay's interception return then made the gap 31 points. San Diego State's two touchdowns showed passing success in spots, but 48 rushing yards and three third-down conversions limited the number of possessions that could produce a comeback.
Toledo's clean turnover line mattered because San Diego State's two giveaways both changed the scoring picture. Zay's interception return directly produced seven points, while the other lost possession removed another chance for the Aztecs to answer Toledo's long touchdown plays. The Rockets converted those moments into a lead too large for a late rally.
Toledo moved to 3-1 with the home victory, while San Diego State dropped to 1-3. The official Toledo and San Diego State previews place the game at the Glass Bowl, where the Rockets completed a 41-16 home win. Hammer's 78-yard touchdown was the longest scoring play in the event record.
