East Carolina beat North Carolina Central 42-9 in Greenville on Saturday, building a 39-point halftime lead that settled the result. The Pirates led 42-3 at the break after scoring 35 points in the second quarter. TJ Engleman Jr. produced two rushing touchdowns and one receiving score, including an 88-yard run that made it 35-3 late in the half. The ESPN game record shows ECU gaining 489 yards to the Eagles' 208.
N.C. Central scored first on Riley Daniels's 39-yard field goal with 10:47 left in the opening period. ECU quarterback Emory Williams lost a fumble at the Eagles' goal line on a later possession, with N.C. Central recovering in the end zone for a touchback. That early stop kept the visitors ahead temporarily. The Pirates still took a 7-3 lead before the quarter ended when Engleman ran five yards for his first touchdown.
The second quarter changed the game decisively. Williams passed six yards to Michael Allen in the opening seconds, eight yards to Engleman at 11:01, then 22 yards to Kanen Hamlett at 9:24. Those three passing scores pushed ECU ahead 28-3. Engleman's 88-yard run with 1:49 remaining added seven more. Just 20 seconds later, Ayden Duncanson returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown. Five ECU touchdowns in one period left N.C. Central facing a 39-point halftime deficit.

The offense did not add another point after halftime. N.C. Central's only touchdown came with 31 seconds left, when Cobey Thompkins found Nasim Cosby from ten yards. ECU blocked the ensuing extra-point attempt, leaving the final 42-9. The quieter second half matters to the shape of this recap: ECU won the game with the first-half surge, rather than with four quarters of uninterrupted scoring.
Williams completed 25 of 36 passes for 341 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Engleman ran ten times for 129 yards and two scores, with the 88-yard play accounting for most of that rushing total. Ray Ray Joseph Jr. led Pirate receivers with ten catches for 141 yards. For the Eagles, Thompkins passed for 108 yards and one touchdown but was intercepted twice. N.C. Central converted four of 17 third downs and gained only 35 rushing yards, making it difficult to respond once the margin opened.
ECU's official game-week notes placed the matchup at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium and noted that the Pirates had arrived 1-2 after their first win at Old Dominion. Saturday's result was a second straight victory, but the key story is narrower and concrete: ECU used a five-touchdown quarter and two Engleman rushing scores to put the game out of reach before the teams returned from halftime.
