Sam Houston moved the ball for 195 passing yards and 74 rushing yards, but the three interceptions ended possessions before the Bearkats could match Texas Tech's volume. The game turned on the contrast between those two takeaways and Sam Houston's inability to sustain third downs. Texas Tech's two interception returns produced 14 points without an offensive snap in the scoring drives, then the Red Raiders' rushing game added 219 yards as the defense kept the Bearkats from another answer. The 49 points came across all four quarters, with the biggest separation arriving after halftime.
Sam Houston dropped to 1-3, while Texas Tech's 4-0 start includes a 3-0 home record. The decisive sequence was the second-quarter interception returns, which created a 21-0 hole and forced the visitors to chase the game. The official game center lists Galaxy Stadium in Lubbock as the venue.
