  • For three quarters, No. 1 Ohio State had Texas pinned. The Longhorns turned the ball over twice, trailed 20-3 at halftime and still faced a 23-3 hole after the Buckeyes opened the fourth quarter with another field goal.

  • Then Texas found a way back. Arch Manning hit Ryan Wingo for a touchdown, and the Longhorns followed with two more fourth-quarter scoring drives. Hollywood Smothers finished the comeback with a 1-yard touchdown run with 25 seconds left.

  • Ohio State still had a chance. After Smothers scored, the Buckeyes drove into range for Connor Hawkins, who had already made three field goals. His 45-yard attempt missed, giving Texas the opening to finish the winning drive.
