  • The Bank of Utah Championship completed its second round Saturday, October 3, after Friday's darkness suspension. The final cut was six under, with 70 players advancing to the weekend, according to the PGA Tour's official leaderboard captured at 2:03 p.m. Eastern.

Alejandro Tosti and Jesper Svensson both finished at seven under, with rounds of 66–69 and 68–67 respectively. Amateur Bowen Mauss finished at even par and missed the cut. Those results close the three unfinished rounds carried into Saturday morning.

Jackson Koivun qualified at six-under 136 after rounds of 69 and 67. His last-hole birdie proved enough to reach the weekend; the PGA Tour shared that finish:

Tony Finau missed at four under after rounds of 70 and 68, and Maverick McNealy missed at five under after 69–68. The official leaderboard now lists both as cut.

Austin Smotherman's 17-under 125 remained the completed 36-hole lead, one stroke ahead of Kevin Roy. The third round was in progress at the time of checking; their final group was scheduled for 2:35 p.m. Eastern. These are second-round results, with the tournament still continuing.

  • Earlier reporting: Friday, October 2

Austin Smotherman finished with three straight birdies to take the overnight lead at the Bank of Utah Championship on Friday. His nine-under 62 put him at 17-under 125 at Black Desert Resort, one stroke ahead of Kevin Roy, while darkness left three players with holes to finish.

Smotherman hit all 18 greens in regulation, according to Field Level Media. He already had seven birdies against one bogey before reaching the 16th. A nine-foot putt there, a 20-footer at the par-three 17th and a two-putt birdie at the closing par-five supplied the finish that moved him clear of Roy.

Roy followed his opening 63 with another 63. He has played 36 holes without a bogey, giving Smotherman little room to relax despite matching his career-low PGA Tour round. The official leaderboard records Roy at 16-under 126, with Doug Ghim and Kevin Streelman another stroke back.

Ghim also shot 62 on Friday, following a first-round 65. Streelman's 64 followed an opening 63. Stephan Jaeger stands fifth at 14 under after a 65, and defending champion Michael Brennan is among the players at 12 under. Thursday leader Zach Bauchou shot 69 and slipped to 11 under, six behind Smotherman.

Jackson Koivun had a different target on the final hole. He needed a birdie to reach the projected six-under cut and converted from six feet after playing out of a fairway bunker. His 67 left him at six-under 136. The round remained incomplete, so the cut was still projected in the PGA Tour's late-Friday leaderboard.

Tony Finau finished at four under. Maverick McNealy, Lucas Glover, Max Greyserman and Cam Davis were at five under, all below the projected line. Their scores underline how much scoring Black Desert demanded: even a two-round total comfortably below par could leave a player short of the weekend.

For Smotherman, this is another chance to turn a halfway lead into his first PGA Tour victory. The Associated Press reports that this is his 100th Tour start; he also led after 36 holes at the Cognizant Classic before finishing tied for second.

The PGA Tour says the second round will resume at 11 a.m. Eastern Saturday. Third-round starting times are expected from approximately 11:20 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with groups of three using the first and 10th tees.
