Jeremiah Smith caught 11 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns as No. 5 Ohio State beat No. 14 Iowa 31-14 on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium. His two scores arrived at different pressure points: one just before halftime, the other midway through the third quarter as the Buckeyes pulled away.
Julian Sayin completed 20 of 27 passes for 324 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Ohio State finished with 484 yards to Iowa's 238, and gave the Hawkeyes little opportunity to make the fourth quarter competitive. The Buckeyes held the ball for the final 9 minutes, 30 seconds after Iowa's only touchdown.
Smith stretches the lead
Iowa kept the game at 10-6 through most of the second quarter. Ohio State finally opened some space with a nine-play, 84-yard possession, ending when Sayin found Smith for a 12-yard touchdown with 12 seconds left before halftime.

Smith caught six passes for 111 yards in the first half, according to Hawk Fanatic's Pat Harty. After the break, his 57-yard touchdown reception put Ohio State ahead 24-6 with 6:11 left in the third. The official Ohio State Football account posted the play and Smith's brief Heisman pose Saturday.
Devin McCuin supplied another productive target, catching four passes for 80 yards. His 15-yard touchdown opened the scoring after Ohio State recovered a fumble on Iowa's first possession. That early short field put the Hawkeyes behind before either offense had settled into the game.
Iowa cannot find a ground game
The Buckeyes rushed for 160 yards while holding Iowa to 39 on 21 attempts. Ja'Kobi Jackson gained 72 yards and scored on a seven-yard run early in the fourth quarter; Bo Jackson added 70. Ohio State converted eight of 15 third downs and had 25 first downs to Iowa's 15.
Iowa's opening possession ended when Kenyatta Jackson Jr. sacked Hank Brown and Christian Alliegro recovered the fumble. Jaylen McClain later intercepted Brown in the third quarter. Ohio State committed no turnovers, giving its offense room to work through nine penalties without surrendering a comparable short field.
Brown completed 12 of 27 passes for 132 yards. Harty reported that he left early in the fourth quarter after a hard hit and did not return. Jeremy Hecklinski took over and completed all five of his passes, helping Iowa reach the end zone on Braeden Jackson's two-yard run. The subsequent two-point conversion made it 31-14.
Harty also reported that defensive backs Zach Lutmer and Deshaun Lee left with injuries in the second half. Those reports establish that the players exited; they do not establish a diagnosis or a timetable for their next game.
Iowa fell to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten. Its next assignment is a trip to Washington on Friday. Ohio State's closing possession left no chance for another Hawkeyes rally: 16 plays moved the ball 55 yards and used every remaining second.
