The Southeastern Conference amended its federal lawsuit against LSU, Lane Kiffin, and school officials on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, seeking court authority to expel LSU from the league.
In the filing, the SEC said its presidents and chancellors will meet Thursday, September 10, under Section 3.1.5 of the conference constitution. A vote of at least two-thirds of the presidents is required to terminate a school's membership.
ESPN reports the SEC is not expected to actually expel LSU. The amendment is meant to defend the conference's right to enforce its own rules after a Louisiana state-court fight over athletes who signed NFL contracts and tried to return to college.
