Reports: Cardinals finalizing Harrison trade; destination remains unknown
Marvin Harrison Jr. Deal is worked out.

The Arizona Cardinals are finalizing a trade of Marvin Harrison Jr., according to reports from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and ESPN's Adam Schefter, with the receiver expected to be inactive for Sunday's game against Detroit. The acquiring team and completed terms had not been identified in the reports available Sunday morning.
Houston has participated in trade discussions, the reporters said, but that does not establish the Texans as Harrison's destination. NFL.com also reported that Indianapolis was not involved in the talks, despite speculation connecting Harrison with the franchise where his father built his Hall of Fame career.
The immediate football consequence is clearer than the transaction's endpoint: Arizona is preparing to face the Lions without one of its former top draft selections. The Cardinals took Harrison fourth overall in 2024. Through four games this season, he has five receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown, a much smaller role than his draft position once suggested.

Cardinals senior writer Darren Urban reported that Harrison's role has declined since Mike LaFleur became head coach. Urban described an offense that has struggled to involve both Harrison and Michael Wilson consistently, with All-Pro tight end Trey McBride serving as its leading pass-catching option. That account offers context for the reported move without identifying a completed deal.
Harrison did make a scoring contribution last week against the Giants, catching a touchdown pass and drawing a late pass-interference penalty that gave Arizona an opportunity near the goal line. The Cardinals failed to convert that chance. His production that afternoon did not end the trade discussions reported later in the week.
On Thursday, Harrison told team reporters he was focused on preparing for Detroit and was not paying attention to the rumors. Saturday's reports changed the expectation for his availability, while leaving the timing and compensation unsettled. NFL.com said Arizona reportedly sought a second-round selection and additional compensation; a requested price is not evidence of an agreed return.
Harrison has 108 career receptions for 1,578 yards and 13 touchdowns in 33 games, according to NFL.com's report. Those totals describe the player under discussion, but no new team's role, contract arrangement or future production is established by the reporting so far.
Houston's involvement is notable because C.J. Stroud was Harrison's quarterback at Ohio State, a connection also identified in Urban's report. It remains background to the negotiations. Neither the shared college history nor the Texans' need for receiving help confirms that they will complete the acquisition.
Arizona hosts Detroit at State Farm Stadium at 4:25 p.m. Eastern Sunday. Until the clubs announce a transaction or further identified reporting resolves the details, the supported account is a trade being finalized and Harrison expected to sit out the Lions game.
