Rahm signs LIV separation agreement ahead of November court hearing

Court approval is still required for the main settlement terms.

  • Jon Rahm and LIV Golf have signed a separation agreement that would end his contracts and settle their financial claims, subject to a bankruptcy judge’s approval. The deal was executed Wednesday and filed that night in the league’s New Jersey Chapter 11 case.

The motion schedules a November 5 hearing before Judge Michael B. Kaplan. Rahm would release his monetary claims against the LIV parties, while the league would surrender its independent rights to use his name, image and likeness.

The filing identifies a listed unsecured claim of $7,472,527.47 and says the settlement would also remove associated rejection-damages and administrative claims. That amount is separate from estimates of future compensation under his original contract. ESPN reports that the remaining guarantees were believed to exceed $100 million. The agreement would release Rahm’s claims without promising him another payment.

  • The formal contract termination, releases and transfers generally take effect after the required approval and conditions. An interim standstill already bars LIV from enforcing service obligations, exclusivity and similar control provisions while approval is sought. During that period, Rahm can pursue non-LIV playing and business opportunities without LIV’s consent.

Rahm announced last week that he would reject the proposed LIV 2.0 terms. The signed agreement now sets out the terms of his departure, with the parties asking the judge to approve the settlement.

LIV would retain historical content featuring Rahm, subject to restrictions on its use. The agreement would transfer Legion XIII marks and related assets to Rahm’s rights company, but bars using them in a way that suggests affiliation with LIV or TGL. His RAHMBO mark would remain his company’s property, with LIV’s licenses ending.

  • Golf Channel and the Associated Press separately reported the agreement Thursday. His next playing destination remains unresolved: ending LIV’s contractual restrictions does not itself grant PGA Tour membership or tournament entry.

Rahm’s next scheduled start is the Abu Dhabi Championship on November 5 through 8. The court hearing is scheduled for the tournament’s opening day.
