Pat Murphy is a finalist for a third straight Manager of the Year as four Brewers make the cut

  • Pat Murphy has a chance to do something no manager has done. The Brewers manager is one of three finalists for National League Manager of the Year, and a win would make him the first to take the award three straight seasons, according to the Associated Press.

The Baseball Writers' Association of America announced the finalists for its major awards Monday night on MLB Network. Winners will be revealed next week. Murphy's competition is Philadelphia's Don Mattingly and Atlanta's Walt Weiss.

  • The World Series champions have four finalists in all. Jacob Misiorowski is up for the NL Cy Young Award, and the AP called him the heavy favorite. Gold Glove second baseman Brice Turang is an NL MVP finalist, and closer Trevor Megill is a finalist for NL Relief Pitcher of the Year, an award the BBWAA added in both leagues this season.

  • Here is every finalist group, with the AP's read on the favorites where it gave one.

NL MVP: Pete Crow-Armstrong (Cubs), Shohei Ohtani (Dodgers), Brice Turang (Brewers). The AP expects Crow-Armstrong to win after he hit .280 with 45 homers and 41 steals to become the seventh member of the 40-40 club.

AL MVP: Yordan Alvarez (Astros), Junior Caminero (Rays), Bobby Witt Jr. (Royals). The AP has Alvarez as the favorite.

  • NL Cy Young: Jacob Misiorowski (Brewers), Chris Sale (Braves), Cristopher Sanchez (Phillies).

AL Cy Young: Dylan Cease (Blue Jays), Parker Messick (Guardians), Cam Schlittler (Yankees).

NL Rookie of the Year: Carson Benge (Mets), Sal Stewart (Reds), JJ Wetherholt (Cardinals).

AL Rookie of the Year: Kevin McGonigle (Tigers), Parker Messick (Guardians), Payton Tolle (Red Sox).

NL Relief Pitcher of the Year: Jhoan Duran (Phillies), Trevor Megill (Brewers), Mason Miller (Padres).

AL Relief Pitcher of the Year: Bryan Baker (Rays), Cade Smith (Guardians), Louis Varland (Blue Jays).

AL Manager of the Year: Kevin Cash (Rays), Chad Tracy (Red Sox), Will Venable (White Sox).

Messick is the name to watch on the American League side. He is a finalist for both the Cy Young and Rookie of the Year, and the AP noted that his top-three Cy Young finish as a rookie already earns Cleveland an extra pick after the first round of the 2027 draft.

The American League champion Rays have three finalists of their own in Caminero, Baker and Cash.

What's next: The winners are announced next week. Murphy's result is the one with history attached.
