The Angels scored first when Moore singled home Josh Lowe in the second. Seattle answered in the bottom half: Julio Rodríguez hit a two-run homer, his 22nd of the season, and Leo Rivas added an RBI single. The Mariners led 3-1 after two innings and pushed their advantage to 4-1 when J.P. Crawford scored on a wild pitch.
Los Angeles erased that lead in stages. Teodosio's groundout scored Lowe in the fifth, and Zach Neto singled home Moore to tie it. In the sixth, with Moisés Ballesteros and Lowe aboard, Moore drove Bryan Woo's pitch to center for a two-run double. The official MLB video isolates the swing that put the Angels ahead 5-4. That was the last lead change. Teodosio singled home Denzer Guzman in the eighth, and Sammy Peralta gave the Angels three scoreless relief innings after starter Grayson Rodriguez allowed four runs over five. Ryan Watson retired the Mariners in the ninth without a hit for his fourth save.
Woo struck out eight but allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. The Mariners managed seven hits in all. Rodríguez's second-inning homer supplied their biggest swing, but Seattle did not score after the fourth. The Angels had nine hits and got five of their six RBIs from Moore and Teodosio.
Grayson Rodriguez earned the win in his final start of the season, according to the AP. Seattle had briefly turned his night around with three runs in the second, but the Angels got him enough offense for a 5-4 lead before he left. Peralta then worked the sixth through eighth innings without allowing a run; Watson completed the game with a hitless ninth and two strikeouts.
The result was a reversal of the early game, when Seattle's three-run second threatened to carry it through the night. Moore's double gave the Angels the decisive response, and their bullpen protected it. The game also showed how quickly a middle-inning opening can overturn a three-run cushion: the Angels put four runs on the board across the fifth and sixth while Seattle managed no response in either inning.
The clubs continue their series Friday in Seattle; the Thursday final belongs to the Angels, 6-4.
