Gio Lopez accounted for five touchdowns, and Wake Forest scored in every quarter of a 57–3 win over Stanford on Saturday in Winston-Salem. The Demon Deacons led 29–3 at halftime, then kept adding touchdowns while their defense held the Cardinal scoreless after the second quarter.
Lopez completed 20 of 27 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. He also led Wake Forest with 88 rushing yards on 12 carries, scoring three times on the ground. His ability to finish possessions both ways shaped a game in which Wake Forest converted 10 of 13 third downs.
A late first-half touchdown stretches the lead
Deuce Lawrence opened the scoring with a 12-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Lopez followed with a five-yard touchdown run, and a two-point conversion gave Wake Forest a 15–0 lead before the period ended.

Stanford’s response was a 43-yard field goal by Emmet Kenney early in the second quarter. It remained the Cardinal’s only score. Lopez answered with a 12-yard touchdown run later in the quarter, then threw a four-yard touchdown pass to Jack Foley with eight seconds left before halftime.
That final touchdown changed the halftime margin from 19 points to 26. Stanford went into the break trailing 29–3, with Wake Forest already showing that both its passing game and quarterback runs could finish drives near the goal line.
Lopez closes out his five-score afternoon
Lopez scored from four yards out in the third quarter and later threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Will Loerzel. Those plays made it 43–3 before Wake Forest turned to its remaining offensive contributors in the fourth quarter.
Steele Pizzella added a 10-yard rushing touchdown, and Jamar Searcy scored from six yards out to complete the scoring. Pizzella also completed two of three passes for 57 yards. Wake Forest finished with 519 total yards, including 322 through the air and 197 on the ground.
