Sam Leavitt expects his hamstring to be back to full strength when LSU visits Kentucky on Saturday, giving the Tigers an encouraging player assessment ahead of their next SEC road game.
Speaking in LSU’s October 6 post-practice media session, Leavitt said the injury was feeling good and described it as a light hamstring issue. He expects to be fully healthy by Saturday. That is his assessment of the recovery, rather than a separate medical clearance or official game designation.

Read source ↗ The injury also changed how he approached the previous two games. Leavitt said he had not been able to run around as usual and had to rely more on his passing. After LSU’s loss at Ole Miss, he had already been thinking about staying in the pocket and trusting where he wanted to place the ball.

When the hamstring limited his movement against Texas A&M, he said that approach became necessary. He described the experience as helping him settle into a quarterback-first mindset, with his legs available when a play requires them.
His latest performance gave LSU plenty to build on. In the Tigers’ 63-14 win over McNeese, Leavitt completed 18 of 23 passes for 176 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. LSU finished with 731 yards of offense and improved to 4-1. Those are the results from Saturday’s game, rather than evidence that the hamstring has already fully recovered.
Leavitt also discussed preparation for the crowd and communication demands in Lexington. He said LSU was using crowd noise in practice and trying to sharpen its communication after its earlier road loss.
The Tigers face Kentucky on October 10 at 6 p.m. Central on ESPN. Leavitt’s stated expectation leaves room for him to use more of his running ability, but his interview did not promise a particular rushing workload. His next test is combining that mobility with the pocket decisions he says improved while the hamstring was limiting him.
