Missouri State had SMU down 10–0 in the first quarter Saturday, with an interception return supplying the early jolt. Kevin Jennings then turned the game into a record-setting passing performance. The No. 22 Mustangs won 34–24 at Ford Stadium as Jennings threw for 464 yards and three touchdowns, completing 33 of 39 passes. The ESPN final report says he became SMU’s career leader in both passing yards and completions.
The start was unsettled. Missouri State’s Yousef Obeid made a 35-yard field goal after a Mustangs fumble, and Joel Boamah returned a Jennings interception 60 yards for a touchdown. SMU’s offense had moved the ball, but those two turnovers gave the Bears ten points before the Mustangs scored. Kendrick Raphael’s 1-yard run began the response in the second quarter. Jennings then hit Theo Melin Ohrstrom for a 19-yard touchdown with four seconds left before halftime, finally moving SMU ahead 14–10.
Jennings scored on a 1-yard run after the break and later threw a 28-yard touchdown to Yamir Knight and a 23-yard touchdown to Melin Ohrstrom. The ESPN scoring log tracks those scores against Missouri State’s fourth-quarter passing touchdowns. Knight finished with 11 catches for 164 yards, while Jalen Cooper added eight receptions for 125. The passing production drove SMU’s 592 total yards.

The individual marks make this more than a routine win over a nonconference opponent. Jennings ended the night with 722 career completions and 9,162 passing yards, passing Ben Hicks’ school marks of 718 and 9,081. He also set a school record by completing 21 straight passes and moved past Tanner Mordecai’s record for touchdowns responsible for, reaching 78. Those totals are reported in the ESPN game recap and match the game’s 464-yard, four-total-touchdown performance.
Missouri State stayed competitive despite being outgained 592–239. The Bears turned SMU mistakes into the first ten points and later got touchdown passes from Skyler Locklear and Henry Belin IV. Their scoring chances kept the game from feeling settled even as Jennings piled up yards. The final box shows two SMU turnovers and one Missouri State turnover.
SMU improves to 3–1 before returning to ACC play. Its official schedule preview identified the Missouri State game as a home meeting before Boston College visits next week. Saturday’s lesson for the Mustangs is two-sided: Jennings supplied a historic answer to a bad start, but the turnovers gave the Bears the opening they needed to make him deliver it.
