The Southeastern Conference fined Kentucky $500,000 on Sunday after fans entered the field following the Wildcats' 35-34 overtime win against LSU. Because the game was a conference contest, the money goes to LSU.
The SEC's announcement identified the October 10 game as a violation of its access-to-competition-area policy. The rule carries a $500,000 penalty for a violation in any conference-sponsored sport. For nonconference games, the fine goes to the SEC's postgraduate scholarship fund instead of the opponent.
Saturday's finish sent fans onto Kroger Field after quarterback Kenny Minchey's successful two-point conversion. Kentucky had answered LSU's overtime touchdown and then chose to play for the win. The victory was its second consecutive 35-34 overtime result, following the same score against South Carolina the week before.

The conference policy provides a way for a school to permit a celebration without drawing the penalty. An institution can submit a plan in advance that allows fans onto the field or court after every visiting team member and game official has safely left the playing surface. The school must also communicate that plan to its fans.
That distinction concerns when spectators enter. The SEC announcement said Kentucky violated the policy, triggering the prescribed fine. Its statement did not announce a change to the game's result or a separate player or coach penalty.
Kentucky moved to 5-1 with the victory and returned to the AP Top 25 at No. 15 on Sunday. Nick Bromberg's Yahoo Sports report identified the Wildcats as the first SEC school fined for field storming this season. The SEC adopted its access policy in 2004 and increased the financial penalties in 2015, 2023 and 2025.
