  • The Cowboys are discussing potential roster additions after injuries further thinned their defense. Jerry Jones confirmed the conversations Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan, two days after Dallas lost 34-31 to Baltimore.

The owner and general manager described communication involving himself, Stephen Jones and the scouting staff. He offered no completed transaction, timetable or named acquisition in the Cowboys' account of the interview.

“Yes, there's conversations going on,” Jones said.

  • Dallas heads to Houston at 1-2, with a depleted secondary adding urgency to the personnel search. The team's postgame reporting identified safety Jalen Thompson, cornerback Shavon Revel and defensive tackle Jonathan Bullard as players who left the Ravens game and did not return. Dallas had already been playing without safety Malik Hooker and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.

Those absences forced reserve defensive backs into larger roles. Reddy Steward, Caelen Carson, Markquese Bell, Alijah Clark and Ameer Speed were among the players whose workloads increased. Any addition would need to address a current depth problem while fitting the defense Christian Parker is trying to establish.

Jones has previously said Dallas would consider spending premium draft capital for the right improvement. The resources available are limited. The Cowboys' report says the club currently owns four picks in the 2027 draft: its remaining first-round selection, a second, a fourth and a sixth. The better of its two first-round picks goes to the Jets as part of the Quinnen Williams trade.

  • That makes price a meaningful part of these discussions. A player who helps immediately would still have to justify the picks Dallas surrenders and the role he can fill once injured defenders return.

Independent reporting carried by Yahoo also records Jones' remarks, citing Cowboys reporter Jon Machota's account of the radio appearance. Discussion of possible cornerback targets remains reporting about possibilities. Tuesday's confirmed development is that Jones says talks are underway.

Roster help would not resolve every problem exposed in Rio de Janeiro. Baltimore's late completion to Zay Flowers put the Ravens in position for the winning field goal. Dallas also settled for a field goal on its final possession after a third-down play failed near the goal line. Jones said the team was reviewing those decisions and execution errors.

The Cowboys can pursue help while correcting those mistakes. Until a transaction is announced, the players already on the roster must prepare for the Texans.
