  • James Madison seized control early at Old Dominion and left Norfolk with a 46-20 win Saturday. Camden Coleman threw four touchdown passes in the first half, giving the Dukes a 30-17 lead at intermission. They then held the Monarchs to one field goal after halftime and moved to 4-0 overall, 1-0 in Sun Belt play. Old Dominion fell to 1-3, 0-1 in the conference.

The scoring opened with Coleman’s three-yard pass to Cole Keller. He found Michael Scott for a 20-yard touchdown later in the first quarter. Old Dominion answered with Ryan Huff’s 23-yard pass to Leon Haughton Jr., but Morgan Suarez’s 28-yard field goal sent James Madison into the second quarter ahead 17-7. Coleman followed with scoring passes of 13 yards to Jeremiah Harrison and 18 yards to Corey Scott. The second of those made it 30-7 with 11:42 left before halftime.

Old Dominion did not fold at that point. Maurki James ran for a one-yard touchdown, and Nathanial Eichner kicked a 49-yard field goal with three seconds left in the half. The Monarchs had cut a 23-point deficit to 13. Their comeback stalled after the break. Suarez made two third-quarter field goals, from 36 and 27 yards, while James Madison’s defense kept Old Dominion out of the end zone. An Eichner field goal early in the fourth was the Monarchs’ only second-half scoring. Suarez added a 26-yarder, and Seth Cromwell’s one-yard run closed the scoring.

  • Coleman finished 24 of 42 for 243 yards, four touchdowns and one interception in the live ESPN box score. George Pettaway gave James Madison 110 rushing yards on 16 carries. The Dukes produced 405 total yards to Old Dominion’s 247, and they held the ball for 33:06. The defensive split was sharper on the ground: Old Dominion finished with minus-14 rushing yards, including sacks, on 28 attempts.

Huff completed 20 of 39 passes for 261 yards, one touchdown and one interception. TJ Johnson caught five passes for 105 yards, but the Monarchs converted only four of 16 third downs and committed two turnovers. James Madison was six of 18 on third down, so this was not an entirely smooth offensive night despite the margin. Its fast start, however, gave Old Dominion too much to recover.

The JMU game preview identified this as the Dukes’ Sun Belt opener and their second straight road game. The result extends their unbeaten start and gives them a conference win away from home. The final score and player totals are from the live ESPN game record; no postgame team quote was available in the sources checked, so the game account rests on the verified play and box-score data.
