Javen Jacobs scored on a 2-yard run with 6:22 remaining as Utah State erased a 13-point halftime deficit and beat Washington State 17–16 on Friday night at Maverik Stadium. The Aggies scored 14 unanswered points after halftime, turning two Washington State fumbles into the touchdowns that changed the game.
Jacobs’ fourth-quarter score came after tight end Jack Pedersen lost a fumble, giving Utah State the ball at the Cougars’ 19-yard line. Grady Brosterhous found Javon Robinson for 17 yards, and Jacobs finished the three-play possession. Kian Afrookhteh’s extra point gave the Aggies their first lead.
Utah State’s earlier touchdown followed another short field. Caden Pinnick’s third-quarter fumble put the Aggies at Washington State’s 39. Brosterhous capped that possession with a 27-yard touchdown pass to Eli Wood with 7:08 left in the quarter, cutting a 16–3 deficit to six points.

The Cougars had opportunities to answer. After Utah State took the lead, Washington State punted, forced a three-and-out, and got the ball back at its own 25 with 2:40 remaining. A sack and a holding penalty that erased a completion left that possession stalled, and the Cougars punted again.
Jacobs then supplied the first down Utah State needed to finish. His 12-yard run moved the Aggies to their own 42, and Washington State used its remaining timeouts before Utah State ran out the clock. The Cougars did not score in the second half.
Washington State had controlled the scoring before the break. Jack Stevens made field goals from 40 and 43 yards in the first quarter, then added a 50-yarder early in the second. Afrookhteh’s 48-yard field goal was Utah State’s only first-half score.
Leo Pulalasi extended Washington State’s lead with a 54-yard touchdown run with 3:32 left before halftime. That burst accounted for most of his 60 rushing yards and put the Cougars ahead 16–3 after Stevens’ extra point.
Brosterhous finished 11-for-26 for 150 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Wood caught six passes for 84 yards, including the score that started the comeback. Jacobs ran 15 times for 62 yards and his fourth-quarter touchdown.
Pinnick completed 23 of 36 passes for 156 yards without a touchdown or interception. Pulalasi had eight carries, and Trey Leckner led the Cougars’ receivers with 34 yards on four catches.
Washington State outgained Utah State 257–236, but committed 13 penalties for 113 yards and lost two fumbles. The Cougars converted just five of 19 third downs; the Aggies were 3-for-14. Utah State improved to 2–4 overall and 1–1 in the Pac-12, while Washington State fell to 1–5 and 0–2 in conference play.
