  • North Dakota State took control on Wyoming’s first offensive play and protected that advantage throughout a 28–0 victory Saturday in Fargo. Donovan Woolen’s interception gave the Bison a short field, Nathan Hayes supplied two rushing touchdowns, and Wyoming left without a point in North Dakota State’s first Mountain West Conference home game.

The Bison improved to 5–0 overall and 2–0 in league play. Wyoming fell to 2–3 and 1–1. The teams were also playing for the newly introduced Battle of the Basins trophy, adding a traveling prize to their first conference meeting.

Tyler Hughes’ opening pass was intercepted by Woolen and returned to the Wyoming 19. Hayes finished the ensuing possession with an eight-yard touchdown run at 12:43 of the first quarter. That gave North Dakota State seven points before Wyoming could establish a drive or force the Bison to work through a long field.

  • Hayes’ second touchdown came with 10:39 remaining in the second quarter, this time from 14 yards. Jeff Kolpack of The Forum reported that the possession began at North Dakota State’s three-yard line and covered 97 yards. Jackson Williams contributed as both a runner and receiver during that march, helping the Bison escape poor field position.

Drew Klein’s 31-yard field goal with 20 seconds left in the half made it 17–0. He added a 37-yarder in the third quarter, and DJ Scott scored from a yard out with 8:50 remaining in the fourth. Jackson Williams’ successful two-point run after Scott’s touchdown completed the scoring at 28–0.

Hayes finished with 79 rushing yards on 10 carries and completed 14 of 25 passes for 187 yards. Scott carried 20 times for 73 yards. Williams caught four passes for 75 yards, giving Hayes a productive receiving option even though North Dakota State did not score through the air.

  • The Bison finished with 407 total yards, split between 220 rushing and 187 passing. They earned 23 first downs to Wyoming’s eight and held the ball for 33:06. Their offense converted six of 13 third downs, while Wyoming managed two conversions in 11 attempts.

Wyoming’s best scoring opportunity came after a North Dakota State fumble gave the Cowboys possession at the Bison 26. They moved close to the goal line but failed to finish the drive. The fourth-down stop preserved the shutout and prevented the turnover from creating a path back into the game.

Hughes completed five of 14 passes for 52 yards and the opening interception. Wyoming totaled 110 rushing yards, but its 162 yards of offense were insufficient to turn those possessions into points. The Cowboys also failed on both fourth-down attempts.

The Bison next visit UNLV on October 10. Wyoming travels to San Jose State on Friday, October 9. North Dakota State heads into that road assignment unbeaten, having paired an immediate defensive takeaway with a full afternoon of stops against its new conference opponent.
