Gary Matthews Jr.’s former Corona del Mar home gives its harbor view two different settings. Upstairs, the main living rooms and primary suite look outward through large windows. Below, a lounge opens toward the pool terrace. The appealing idea is that the scenery serves both a quiet morning and a gathering with friends.
The retired MLB outfielder’s property sold for $19 million on August 10, 2026, according to the Christie’s International Real Estate Southern California listing record. Homes of Celebs connects the custom home to Matthews and reports that it was completed in 2014. The sale figure is a recorded closing price, not the earlier asking amount.

Official property tour
Read source ↗ Listing agent Casey Lesher’s official tour describes the work of architect Carlton Graham and builders Steve Davidson Construction and Tom Waters. It identifies views of Newport Harbor, Balboa Island, the ocean and Catalina Island. Those credits help explain why the house feels planned around its particular position rather than assembled from unrelated luxury features.

The main level combines a great room, dining area and island kitchen. White oak ceilings and limestone surfaces bring natural materials into a space surrounded by glass. Fold-away doors give the outlook a direct relationship with the rooms, while a fireplace provides a more inward-facing place to settle.
The primary suite is also on the main floor. Its heated view deck extends across the house and includes a barbecue area, according to the tour description. That makes outdoor time possible without turning every meal into a trip downstairs.
The lower level changes the mood. A lounge and media room have a wet bar, while a glass-enclosed office and wine cellar add separate uses. Accordion doors connect this floor to an infinity-edge pool, raised spa and outdoor kitchen. Entertaining can move outside without abandoning the room where it began.
The archived marketing video shows the property’s design, not what furnishings a later owner retained. For our own wish list, the strongest choice is the distinction between the floors. One can support everyday living and a private retreat; the other can take on a louder evening. Both get the benefit of the same remarkable coastal setting.
