Easton Royal has switched his 2027 commitment from Texas to Florida, his family told ESPN on Sunday. The five-star receiver from New Orleans’ Brother Martin gives first-year Gators coach Jon Sumrall another prominent recruit six days before Florida visits the Longhorns.
Royal had been pledged to Texas since November 29. His decision follows a visit to Gainesville for Saturday’s loss to South Carolina and months of pursuit by other SEC programs. ESPN reports that he is expected to cancel scheduled visits to Texas and LSU and end his recruitment. He has yet to sign with Florida.

ESPN lists Royal as the No. 8 overall prospect and its top receiver. CBS cites 247Sports, which places him No. 14 overall and second at the position. Rivals’ Industry Rankings have him fifth overall and first among receivers.
His production supplies another measure of what Florida is recruiting. Royal totaled 2,095 all-purpose yards and 29 touchdowns as a junior, figures reported by ESPN and CBS. ESPN also credits him with a 10.17-second, state-title-winning 100 meters in May. That combination has drawn interest in his ability to contribute from several alignments, though his eventual college role remains to be determined.
Sumrall’s relationship with Royal began before Gainesville. ESPN reports that the coach offered him while at Tulane in March 2025 and resumed the pursuit after taking the Florida job. Royal joins fellow five-star offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller in the Gators’ class.
The next formal checkpoint is the December signing period. Florida visits Texas at noon Eastern Saturday on ABC, with the Gators 4-2 and the Longhorns 5-1 after their loss to Oklahoma.
