NBA: Timberwolves at Knicks preseason highlights, Oct. 12
Read source ↗ The separation had begun earlier in the second quarter. Posting and Toasting’s Russell Richardson described McDaniels scoring seven straight points while Minnesota stretched a 34–31 advantage to 41–31. He also noted McDaniels blocking a Tyler Kolek drive during that sequence. It was one of the stretches in which New York’s defense failed to follow a brief offensive response with enough stops.
Jalen Brunson gave the Knicks a stronger start after halftime. He finished with 20 points in 22 minutes, making six of his 13 shots and seven of eight free throws. Richardson reported that New York’s starters left the floor with Minnesota’s lead reduced to 77–72. The Timberwolves still carried a 90–80 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Jose Alvarado opened the final period with a jumper that made it 90–82. Minnesota answered with consecutive threes from Cody Williams and KJ Martin, according to the play-by-play. That response restored a 14-point margin and kept the Knicks from making their early fourth-quarter push a close finish.
Ball had 10 points and seven assists in 22 minutes, although his five turnovers also showed work remaining in the backcourt. Ayo Dosunmu added 11 points and three steals off the bench. Minnesota finished with 26 assists and a 39–28 rebounding advantage, including 13 offensive rebounds.
OG Anunoby scored 15 for New York, and Karl-Anthony Towns had 11 points with four assists. The Knicks’ limited starter minutes and extensive substitutions remain part of the exhibition context. They travel to Toronto for their next preseason game Tuesday. Monday’s result gave Minnesota a useful shooting night and several clear answers to New York’s comeback attempts without establishing how either team’s regular-season rotation will settle.
