Bryce Coleman caught three touchdown passes, including the go-ahead score with 6:41 remaining, as Columbia erased a 17-point deficit and beat Penn 28-27 in a game that ended just after midnight at Franklin Field.
Penn still had a chance to win after Coleman’s third touchdown. Mason Walters’ 51-yard field-goal attempt fell short as time expired, leaving the Lions with their first Ivy League victory of the season. Columbia improves to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the league; Penn falls to 2-3 and 0-2.
Coleman finished with six catches for 90 yards. His final touchdown came from 9 yards out, capping a nine-play, 69-yard drive that required Columbia to convert two third downs.

Chase Goodwin found tight end Braden Dougherty for 22 yards on third-and-6, then Hutch Crow for 10 yards on another third down. Goodwin’s 12-yard run put Columbia at the Penn 9 before he went back to Coleman. Hugo Merry’s extra point provided the winning margin.
The Lions had spent most of the game chasing Penn. Tommy Lafayette’s 6-yard touchdown run and Walters’ 52-yard field goal opened a 10-0 lead. Coleman’s first touchdown, a 16-yard catch from Goodwin, brought Columbia within three, but Penn quickly stretched the gap again.
Karson Siqueiros-Lasky hit Mason Page for a 19-yard touchdown and Dante Barone for a 20-yard score, putting the Quakers ahead 24-7 early in the second quarter. Columbia’s defense then intercepted three passes before halftime. Griffin Johnson’s 3-yard touchdown run and Coleman’s 11-yard scoring catch cut the deficit to 24-21.
Walters’ 28-yard field goal supplied Penn’s only second-half points. Columbia reached the Penn 3 on a later possession but came away empty after a penalty and an interception. The Lions finally took their first lead on Coleman’s third score.
Galvin Goss gave Columbia another chance to finish the game by intercepting Siqueiros-Lasky with 1:52 left. The Lions could not run out the clock, however, and punted back to Penn.
The Quakers took over at their own 19 with 52 seconds left and no timeouts. A 26-yard pass to Isaac Lee and a 16-yard completion to Page helped set up the final field-goal attempt. Walters, who had already made a longer kick, could not connect from 51.
Goodwin completed 17 of 40 passes for 237 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Johnson ran for 80 yards on 21 carries. Penn gained 446 yards to Columbia’s 362, but its four interceptions gave the Lions repeated chances to recover from the early deficit.
Siqueiros-Lasky threw for 374 yards and two touchdowns. Lee caught 10 passes for 158 yards, while Page added 110 yards on five receptions. Columbia hosts Dartmouth on October 24.
