Saturday, October 3 update
Carolina placed Xavier Legette on injured reserve Saturday, extending the wide receiver's absence beyond Sunday night's game against Detroit. The Panthers also announced that left tackle Monroe Freeling cleared concussion protocol and is cleared to play, removing another uncertainty from an offense still waiting on Jalen Coker.
Legette must miss at least four games, according to the team's announcement. He hurt his knee against Atlanta in Week 2 after a 55-yard reception and did not play against Cleveland last week. Friday's report had already ruled him out against the Lions; Saturday's transaction confirms a longer roster absence.

Coker remains questionable with a quadriceps injury. He returned to limited practice Friday, participating in individual and team work, but Carolina said his condition would continue to be evaluated over the weekend. The Legette transaction does not change Coker's designation or establish that he will play.
Carolina elevated rookie receiver Ja'seem Reed from the practice squad for the first time this season. The team's other available receiver options include Tetairoa McMillan, John Metchie III, David Moore and Brycen Tremayne. Reed's elevation adds an option for Sunday while Legette is unavailable and Coker's status remains unsettled.
Freeling's clearance is a separate positive development for the offensive line. The rookie had been questionable while progressing through concussion protocol. Carolina's Saturday announcement says he has now completed that process and can play against Detroit. That changes the tackle's status from the uncertainty carried on Friday's report.
The Panthers also elevated cornerback Robert Rochell for the first time this season. Their secondary lost Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson to injured reserve Wednesday. Carolina identifies Akayleb Evans and Will Lee III as its starting cornerbacks, with Chau Smith-Wade also on the active roster. Rochell gives that depleted group another game-day option.
Josh Alper's independent report confirmed Legette's move to IR and Carolina's receiver shortage. The immediate roster decisions are now clearer: Legette is unavailable for a multi-game stretch, Freeling is cleared, and Reed and Rochell have been added through standard elevations. Coker remains the unresolved availability decision in the receiver group.

Earlier reporting retained; Saturday status above supersedes earlier availability
Jalen Coker is questionable for Carolina's Sunday night game against Detroit after limited work Friday, leaving the Panthers without a final answer on their leading receiver. Xavier Legette is out with a knee injury, and left guard Damien Lewis is out with an elbow injury, the team announced in its final report.
Coach Dave Canales said Coker completed an individual period and took a few team snaps Friday. Carolina plans to work him again Saturday and check how his quadriceps injury responds before settling his availability. The limited session moved the evaluation forward but did not clear him for Sunday.
Coker has 18 catches for 222 yards and two touchdowns this season, according to The Associated Press. If he cannot play, Canales said Carolina would likely elevate Ja'seem Reed from the practice squad and lean on Brycen Tremayne. Those remain conditional plans while Coker is questionable.
Questions remain on the line
Right tackle Monroe Freeling practiced fully Friday but is still questionable with a concussion. Canales said Freeling has medical steps remaining before he can be cleared for contact. Stone Forsythe is the alternative if Freeling is not cleared. Corey Bullock will start at left guard for Lewis.
Defensive tackles Cam Jackson, with a knee injury, and Lee Hunter, with a foot injury, are also questionable after limited Friday practices. Bryce Young carries no game designation after three straight full practices while listed with a knee issue, AP reported.
The remaining uncertainty centers on Coker, Freeling and the two defensive tackles. Legette and Lewis have already been ruled out, so their status does not depend on another weekend evaluation.
Coker's earlier Queen City News interview provides context on the quadriceps injury that kept him from finishing the Cleveland game. It was posted Thursday night, before Carolina issued Friday's final designations.
