Chicago survived one of the wildest games of the night, beating Kansas City 14-11 at Kauffman Stadium after the Royals scored seven times in the final two innings. Chase Meidroth drove in a career-high five runs, and the White Sox hit four homers before Kansas City made the final score look close.
Meidroth opened the scoring with a two-run single in the first and added a three-run homer in the third, giving Chicago a 6-0 lead. Brenton Doyle added a solo homer in the second, and Randal Grichuk's three-run shot in the fourth pushed the lead to 9-1. Grichuk finished 4-for-5 with four runs, three RBIs and a triple shy of the cycle.
Kansas City answered in pieces. Nick Loftin homered in the third, and Salvador Perez, Loftin and Maikel Garcia added run-producing outs and hits as the Royals cut the deficit to 9-4. Munetaka Murakami restored some room with a two-run homer in the seventh, his 33rd, and Chicago added three more runs in the inning to reach 14-4.

The finish belonged to Vinnie Pasquantino. His RBI double in the eighth started the late push. Kansas City scored twice more in that inning before Pasquantino hit a grand slam in the ninth against Luis Castillo. The blast scored Tyler Tolbert, Jac Caglianone and Garcia, reducing Chicago's lead to 14-11. Chicago recorded the final outs after the grand slam to preserve the win. Pasquantino went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs.
The White Sox finished with 13 hits and kept their early advantage despite allowing 13 Kansas City hits. Noah Schultz earned the win after two scoreless innings, while Daniel Lynch IV took the loss after allowing nine runs in four innings. Chicago also survived a replay challenge in the eighth, when an outfield fair-or-foul call on Pasquantino's double was upheld.
Meidroth's five-RBI night and Grichuk's four-hit game supplied the cushion. Pasquantino's late surge made the final three outs matter, but Chicago's first seven innings created enough distance to withstand it.
