  • Milwaukee reached a number it had never touched in a regular season on Thursday night. The Brewers beat the Phillies 5-1 in Philadelphia for their 100th victory, turning a tie game into a three-run lead in the eighth before Jackson Chourio added his 25th homer in the ninth. The official box score puts Milwaukee at 100-59 with three games left.

The decisive inning began with a player who was not in the starting lineup. Chourio pinch-hit for William Contreras, walked and stole second. Jake Bauers then singled him home off José Alvarado to break a 1-1 tie. Cooper Pratt and Joey Ortiz followed with run-scoring singles, and Milwaukee carried a 4-1 lead into the ninth. Chourio made the margin larger with a solo shot off Tim Mayza in the ninth. MLB's clip of his 25th homer captures the final swing in a night when his eighth-inning baserunning had already put the Brewers ahead. He finished with two runs despite entering only as a pinch hitter. Milwaukee got its first run on Sal Frelick's second-inning double; Bryce Harper answered with an RBI single in the third for Philadelphia.

  • The Brewers did not need a long outing from one starter. Shane Drohan worked 2 2/3 innings, and four relievers covered the rest. Aaron Ashby supplied two hitless innings in the middle. JoJo Romero earned the win, while Antonio Senzatela recorded the final five outs for his fourth save. The staff held the Phillies to four hits. Philadelphia rookie Andrew Painter allowed one run over six innings with eight strikeouts, so the game remained even until Milwaukee reached the bullpen.

Thursday's result completed a franchise first. Milwaukee's previous high was 97 wins last season, according to the Associated Press game report. The Brewers had already secured the NL Central and a first-round postseason bye; the 100th win also kept their pursuit of the league's top seed alive. A local WBAY account separately followed the eighth-inning sequence and the milestone.

For Philadelphia, the loss delayed a possible postseason clinch. The Phillies also lost Luis Arraez during the game after he hurt his left ankle trying to avoid a tag at first, the AP reported. His availability for the coming series was not established Thursday night. The Phillies open a three-game set against Tampa Bay on Friday; Milwaukee closes at home against St. Louis. The Brewers leave Philadelphia with a record that none of their previous teams managed and a final weekend to protect their playoff position.
