The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night at American Family Field. Trevor Megill struck out Jonny DeLuca with the tying run on third base for the final out, a few minutes after a replay review overturned what had looked like a game-ending double play.
It was Milwaukee's first World Series win since 1982, according to MLB. The Brewers lead the series 1-0.
Tampa Bay trailed 3-1 entering the ninth. Megill got Yandy Diaz on a groundout, then gave up singles to Jonathan Aranda and Chandler Simpson. Jorge Mateo ran for Aranda, and he and Simpson pulled off a double steal before Junior Caminero walked to load the bases. Liam Hicks then hit a grounder to second that the Brewers turned into what looked like a double play to end the game. The Rays challenged, the call was overturned, and Mateo's run counted.

With runners on second and third, Megill struck out DeLuca swinging. He was charged with a run on two hits and a walk and earned his fifth save of the postseason.
Milwaukee scored twice in the first inning off Nick Martinez. Jackson Chourio singled, Christian Yelich tripled him home, and William Contreras singled in Yelich. Tampa Bay got one back in the fourth when Hicks grounded out to bring in Aranda, who had walked and moved to third on Caminero's double.
The Brewers added a run in the seventh. Cooper Pratt walked against Steven Matz and moved up on a groundout, and Chourio singled to right with two outs off Kevin Kelly to make it 3-1.
Jacob Misiorowski got the win. He went five innings, allowing one run on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts on 78 pitches. He had not finished the fifth inning in either of his first two postseason starts. Abner Uribe got four outs, and Aaron Ashby followed with 1 2/3 hitless innings and three strikeouts.
Martinez took the loss, giving up two runs on five hits over five innings with five strikeouts and no walks. Aranda went 3 for 3 with a walk for the Rays. Chourio and Contreras had two hits each for Milwaukee.
Tampa Bay had Drew Rasmussen lined up for Game 2, according to the Associated Press' pregame report.
