The Bills signed linebacker Joe Andreessen to a two-year contract extension Saturday, keeping the Western New York native with Buffalo through 2028. The team confirmed the agreement shortly before its Week 4 game against New England.
Tom Pelissero reported that the extension is worth $5 million, with $3 million guaranteed, and was negotiated by Generation Sports Group. NFL.com also reported those financial terms, citing Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter. Buffalo’s announcement confirmed the length and end year of the extension.
Andreessen’s special-teams work gives the agreement a concrete football basis. He led Buffalo with 21 special-teams tackles in 2025, tied for fourth in the league, according to the team. He has five this season, tied for fifth in the NFL when Buffalo announced the extension.

Over three seasons, the Bills credit him with 33 appearances and three starts, alongside 34 tackles, three tackles for loss and 32 special-teams tackles. His role has included both reserve work on defense and regular work in the kicking game.
His path to the roster began with a rookie-minicamp tryout in 2024. He earned a contract and eventually a place on the team after going undrafted. Before that, he attended Lancaster High School and spent his final college season at the University at Buffalo. That local connection helped make “Buffalo Joe” a familiar name, but Saturday’s announcement also documents the production that followed the tryout.
The extension provides continuity for a player who has appeared in each of Buffalo’s first three games this season. It settles his contract beyond the current campaign without establishing a new starting assignment on defense.
Buffalo enters Sunday at 3–0. Andreessen and the Bills are scheduled to host the Patriots on October 4, with kickoff at 1 p.m. Eastern.
