  • Bear Bachmeier's legs supplied the points BYU needed Saturday night in Fort Worth. The quarterback ran for both Cougars touchdowns, including a 21-yard score with 2:06 remaining, in a 17–10 victory over TCU that required BYU to win with only 62 passing yards.

Bachmeier finished with 66 rushing yards on 15 carries. His late touchdown extended a three-point lead to 17–7 and left TCU needing two scores. The Horned Frogs managed Nate McCashland's 44-yard field goal with 32 seconds left, but the Cougars finished ahead despite being outgained 259 yards to 216.

The offense also had to work around a much more immediate problem. Running back LJ Martin and linebacker Isaiah Glasker left in the first half and were ruled out at halftime, according to ESPN's broadcast as reported by Jason Batacao of The Salt Lake Tribune. Martin had two carries for 16 yards. The reports did not establish how much time either player might miss after Saturday, so their availability remains a separate question from the result.

  • Bachmeier opened the scoring with a nine-yard run at 7:52 of the second quarter. TCU answered just before halftime when Jaden Craig connected with Kari Ashley for a 13-yard touchdown, sending the teams into the break tied 7–7. Matthias Dunn's 49-yard field goal midway through the third quarter gave BYU the lead it kept for the rest of the game.

TCU's passing game produced more yardage than BYU's, but the Horned Frogs struggled to turn that difference into points. Craig completed 18 of 25 passes for 187 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Ashley caught six passes for 108 yards, including the lone TCU touchdown. Jeremy Payne added 77 rushing yards on 14 carries.

BYU's defense held TCU to four conversions in 13 third-down attempts and stopped its only fourth-down try. The Cougars converted eight of 16 third downs, a difference that helped them possess the ball for 32:57. They also finished without a turnover; TCU's interception was the game's only giveaway.

  • Bachmeier completed 11 of 24 passes and did not throw a touchdown. BYU spread the remaining rushing work among Journee Tonga, Legend Glasker and Preston Rex, who combined for 75 yards. The Cougars' 154 team rushing yards supplied most of their offense on a night when no BYU receiver reached 25 yards.

The win leaves BYU with a result it can bank while awaiting medical updates. Its defense protected a narrow lead, its quarterback produced the decisive scoring run, and its offense avoided the turnover that could have made a low-scoring road game turn the other way.
