Austin Smotherman won the Butterfield Bermuda Championship on Monday morning, beating Seamus Power with a par on the third playoff hole for his second PGA Tour win in as many starts.
Wind forced officials to cancel the final round at Port Royal Golf Course, so the event ended after 54 holes with Smotherman and Power tied at 16-under 197. They came back Monday for a playoff on the par-3 16th, with the wind still blowing hard off the Atlantic.
Both players parred the hole twice with the pin at the back, 178 yards out. Power missed a 20-foot birdie putt to win on the first extra hole, then got up and down from a bunker, making an 8-footer to extend it. Officials moved the hole to the front of the green for the third trip. Smotherman hit 8-iron to just inside 15 feet and two-putted, and Power could not save par from the rough.

Smotherman, 32, shot 65, 66 and 66. He won the Bank of Utah Championship three weeks ago for his first tour title, in his 100th career start, and is the first player to win back-to-back starts since Matt Fitzpatrick did it in the spring, according to PGA Tour notes. The two wins put him in next year's U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. He moves to No. 51 in the FedExCup Fall standings, which gets him into next year's first two Signature Events, at Pebble Beach and Riviera, and he collected $1.08 million.
Power, the 2022 champion, was trying to become the first player to win this event twice. The runner-up finish, the first of his career in 237 tour starts, should secure his card for 2027.
Taylor Moore, Corey Conners and Ben Silverman tied for third at 14 under.
